I just finished ‘One Day’, the best-selling book by author David Nicholls – and it didn’t blow me away. Bring on the lynch mob!
Everyone has been hyping this book up, and I see the cover pretty much every day on the tube/bus/train but I just don’t see what all the fuss is about. It’s very well written, yes, and quite witty at points. I have to say I didn’t particularly like either of the characters and found them both quite irritating. Emma reminded me of a girl I really didn’t like at school, very opinionated and annoying – a girl who thinks that because she is averagely intelligent, everyone else is beneath her. Like a massive chip on her shoulder. It annoys me writing about it. Grrrr
Then you have Dexter, the stereotypical waster. No aspirations, no get up and go – just an attractive guy who gets addicted to living his life a certain way.
It was easy to see where the story was going to go. I’m going to give the movie a try, see if maybe I get into it a bit more.
